Levi Stubbs...The Passing Of A Legend

I was 7 years old when I first heard the Four Tops. I immediately fell in love with tunes such as "Reach Out I'll Be There", "Baby I Need Your Lovin" and others. I remember the first time I heard Levi Stubbs scream out those words, "Darlin, Reach Out!" Sent chills down my spine, even at such a young age.

Today, that great man with that great voice passed away...and another piece of my childhood has died along with it.

I am over 50 years old today and I wonder where it all went. I remember the good times in music history when groups like the Four Tops and the Supremes actually sang songs that made us feel something.

But Levi was special. He stood out from all the rest. You'd have to be tone deaf not to be able to pick his voice out from a crowd. Nobody sang like him...nobody.

And today, all I have left are my records, all of which I can't even play anymore because my record player died long before Levi. Yes, I'll have to go out and get some CDs of their great music. I don't know why it took me this long to finally come to that conclusion.

Here's one of my favorite photos of Levi.

If you go to YouTube, you'll find most of their great music.

This is my favorite, and one of the greatest songs ever recorded.

I cannot even begin to tell you how much I miss this man.

The words haven't been invented yet.
